Falling into adulthood

It took a few decades, but I finally got a passport. Yesterday, to be exact.
Now, I might actually have to use it. I hear there are good restos, and climbing to boot, in Spain. Hmm.

How do you go to the US without a passport?

I need a passport, my canadian visa, have my mug shot and fingerprints taken and have to pay 6 US$ to boot.
You just show your driver's license?

I've a Québec driver's license too, but I'm probably not going to try to experiment crossing the border only with that.

You only need a driver's license to drive into the US, if you're a Canadian citizen.
You need to show a passport or birth certificate if you fly into the States, something I didn't know about last March, but was still allowed to fly to Vegas.
The rules are supposed to change this fall (or next, can't remember which), which is why I got my passport.

But how do they know you're a citizen when you only show your driver's license. I've a driver's license too and nowhere is written that I'm only a resident.

Or do they just access their computers? That must be it, they're soooo smart.
